Special flash fiction plus Beth Wylde Chat today!

Since the Wednesday Briefers are taking over the Beth Wylde yahoo group today ( https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/bethwylde/info), all participating authors post a new story today.

If you want to have more information about the chat, here's what I posted a few days ago: http://christikat.blogspot.de/2014/06/beth-wylde-chat-on-sunday-june-29th.html

Now, on to the flash! :D

More than just a friendship?

Beads of sweat rolled down my neck as we strode toward the ship. The Queen Bee shimmered in the sunlight, some of the sun’s rays reflecting off the round windows at the side. Wincing, I pushed my sunglasses from my head to my nose, wishing I was anywhere but here. This trip was going to be a disaster of epic proportions.
Fynn shoved his elbow into my midriff. “Gordy! Stop looking like a grumbler! We're going on a fantastic trip for two weeks. We'll see gorgeous places, relax, and have fun.”
I forced a smile on my face. Only Fynn called me Gordy, claiming Gordon sounded too frumpy. I disagreed, but if Fynn decided on something, then that's it. Sighing, I kept pace with him.
You're going to bounce off the walls if you add more caffeine to your system now,” I said as I snatched the coffee out of his hand.
Fynn's protests fell on deaf ears, even though he screeched when I dumped it into the next available garbage can.
Damn it, Gordy! I wanted to drink that!” Enraged, he pulled the dark blue ribbon from his golden hair, shook his head, then shoved the ribbon back on. I helped him smooth a stray lock behind his left ear.
You won't be able to sleep if you do, and since we're sharing a cabin, I have to think of myself,” I said, grinning.
An expression flitted over Fynn's face that I couldn't grasp. Had I really seen it at all? Fynn cast me a sideways glance from under his long lashes, then shrugged. “You're such a bore.”
There'll be plenty of activities to rescue you from my boring self,” I drawled, doing my best to hide that his comment had hurt.
Fynn rolled his eyes before he tugged at my sleeve, then hooked his hand into the crook of my arm. “I wouldn't take you with me if I thought you were a bore, you know that.”
You wouldn't take me with you if Adam hadn't—” I cut myself off. No need to remind Fynn of Adam cheating on him.
If I hadn't found Adam fucking some stranger?” Fynn said in a hard voice that was so unlike him. I patted his hand. He rested his head on my shoulder and expelled a breath, then added, “I should've listened to you right away.”
We lapsed into silence as we walked the remaining distance toward the Queen Bee. I always warned Fynn whenever he had a new boyfriend. Most of the time I was right, because Fynn's taste in men... it left a lot to be desired. Of course, I knew he'd never see me as more than his best friend. Why should he? I was a big man, with a formidable paunch and thinning hair. I didn't fit into Fynn's prey pattern. At least I had his friendship.
A friendship that would be put to a harsh test on that cruise. Two weeks together with him—a dream come true. Or maybe a nightmare, depending on how many times he decided to flirt and do whatever to forget Adam's cheating. I'd be watching him, close but never close enough. Just like always.
Gordy, really, you're so tense it's a miracle you're not spontaneously combusting!” Fynn groused. He lifted his head from my shoulder and punched it.
Ow! What was that for?”
Stop scowling!”
But you're doing it too,” I shot back.
That's different.”
We reached the gangway and I stopped. Couples walked past us, smiling and chatting, excitement rolling off them. I asked, “Why is it different if you're doing the scowling?”
Fynn rose on his tiptoes, wrapped his arms around my neck and whispered, “I'm so much prettier than you when I do it.” He withdrew after he pecked me on the cheek and continued, “I have more reason to scowl, too. You have none. Come on, now.”
Fynn slipped his hand into mine, something he always did, whether it was appropriate for the situation or not. Since I didn't want to suffer from a dislocated shoulder, I followed him. I did have a reason to scowl, a very good reason even. The very same reason hastened along the gangway, chattering on about some kind of bachelor auction that would be held this afternoon.
Are you going to volunteer?” I asked, my heart clenching. Well, I knew I'd spend some time alone, why not get accustomed to it right away?
Fynn's eyes lit up as he sashayed right into my personal space. “Only if you bid for me.”
The words stuck in my throat as I stared at him, right into his dark blue eyes. The gleam vanished when I remained silent. Fynn turned around without another word and dropped my hand. An awkward moment passed until I cleared my throat.
Softly, I said, “Come on, midget, let's get us settled.”
Fynn's shoulders eased at my nickname for him, and his usual smile reappeared. He nodded, and together we approached the staff welcoming the guests.

Wednesday Briefs: Hope #36

Welcome to Wednesday Briefs, where authors post free fiction of 1000 words or less each week. I used a picture prompt (“time”) this week. Here's the picture:

Hope #36

We descended deeper and deeper under the ground. Shane kept his hand on my shoulder while I brushed my hand along the stone wall. No matter how much I strained my eyes, the darkness remained pitch-black. The stench grew in intensity.
At one point, I stopped and coughed. The cough turned into retching. I panted and swallowed convulsively, not wanting to give in. Wouldn't that just be the cherry on the cake? Me vomiting like some delicate little thing?
Shane laid his other hand on my shoulder, pushed me sideways, and said, “Come on, Gil, get it out of your system.”
I shook my head, then realized he couldn't see that, and answered, “No.”
No?”
I gritted my teeth and balled my hands into fists. How I hated when he sounded slightly bemused but still sure I'd comply anyway. I aimed for a reasonable voice, when I said, “We don't have time for this crap.”
Time won't be an issue here. This is your insecurity talking.”
I bristled. How dare he? He just appeared out of nowhere a day ago, in a German Shepherd puppy form nonetheless, after I believed him dead for months, and now he was berating me?
I knocked my elbow into his belly. He grunted, but let go of me. I stumbled farther down the stairs, tears streaking down my cheeks from struggling against the bile pushing up into my throat and mouth.
Gil!” Shane called. “Don't run away! Please, sweetheart, stay close to me.”
Oh, fuck him. Fuck everyone, but especially this damn, unbearable stench.
My left foot connected with something solid and I tripped, yelling in fear and surprise. I landed on something large.
Gil!”
B-be careful! There's something on the stairs,” I called back.
I pulled myself onto my hands and knees, tentatively touching whatever it was I'd landed on. It was cool to the touch, but if I wasn't mistaken, the huge something was covered in scales. My breathing stuttered then accelerated. A dragon. Did I seriously fall onto a dragon?
S-Shane?” I squeaked when Shane's footsteps came to a halt and only my breathing was audible.
I'm here. Please stay where you are so I can find you,” Shane said.
Is this... is this a dragon?” I whispered.
Yes, but it's dead. Hence the stench. Maybe that one’s a family member, or an earlier mate of the black dragon outside. That would explain why he's so aggressive. Dragons protect their dead,” Shane explained.
That's... very considerate of them,” I said.
Considerate?” Shane snorted.
Would you prefer compassionate?”
I never thought of a dragon in conjunction with either of those words,” Shane said.
His hand closed around my ankle and I yelped, even though I knew it could only be him. He slid up behind me and pulled me into a tight embrace. Forgetting all about my earlier irritation, I clung to him.
Why did you run away?” Shane asked. “It's dangerous, sweetheart.”
I was pissed off at you. I think I still am.”
Shane sighed. “You've got every reason to be mad at me. Could you just cut down on the flouncing off until we're back home? Just so I have a chance to get you back to safety and explain?”
I nodded against his collarbone. “I think I can do that. Can we get down from... from this thing now? Please?”
Without another word, Shane grabbed my hand and guided me from the dragon's body. My knees shook when my feet touched a stone step again. I slapped a hand over my mouth, but Shane wrapped an arm around my waist, pushed me ahead and then doubled me over. I retched until my stomach was sore and my eyes swollen.

Tempeste O'Riley: Desires' Guardian -- Wheels and Places of Desires' Guardian

~~~~~~~~~~
Desires’ Guardian by Tempeste O’Riley
Desires Entwined series book #2
M/M Erotic Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Release Date: June 6th, 2014 (ebook/print)
Length: Novel / 200 pages
Order: Dreamspinner Press All Romance Amazon B & N
Add to: Goodreads
Description:
Most people see Chase Manning as the party-boy twink he seems on the surface. Only James, Chase’s BFF, knows the depth of his loyalty and the extent of the wounds Chase carries inside. When Chase meets Rhys Sayer things don’t go well, but he can’t shake his attraction to the huge, sexy man.
Rhys is a man of contradictions and fear—a strange combination for a PI and bodyguard. He’s in a bad place emotionally when he sets eyes on Chase for the first time. When Chase puts the moves on him, Rhys insults him, thwarting any possibility of a relationship. Rhys doesn’t see himself as a complicated man, but he dreads the very kind of connection he desires.
Just as they’re trying to overcome their uncertainties, Chase is put in harm’s way. Luckily Rhys and their friends have all the right talents to help Rhys save the man of his dreams.
~~~~~~~~~~

Wheels and Places of Desires’ Guardian

When I sat down to write Desires’ Guardian I started with the characters and story, but I quickly ran into the problem of needing places in “town” for things like dates and deciding what Chase rode and what Rhys drove, lol. From Designs of Desire, we knew what Rhys rode, but I wanted more than just that for my boys. I also wanted some of the places to be ‘real’, especially for a first date! Milwaukee has some great places, so…

So here a few of the places and wheels of Desires’ Guardian:

Harley Softail – Rhys drives a black and chrome beauty created lovingly by our very own Harely (yes, we have Harley here in Milwaukee—both corp and meauseum). You see a lot of this bike in the story too ;)

Honda Sabre – Chase drives a bike as well, though it’s more like him, bright, sleek, and lean. The Sabre he drives is a blue metalic color and is his ‘baby’. And yes, he does manage to get Rhys on the back of it with him, lol.

Pontiac Trans Am – Rhys does actually have a car, but you only see it when he takes Chase out on their first real date ;) His doesn’t have the blink light, but that light is discussed, lol. Seriously, who can resist a biker boy with a love for KITT?

The Milwaukee Rep – In the story, Rhys takes Chase out to the theater at one point, so where did they go? Yep, to the Rep! It’s a real place, as is Stackner Cabaret (where they eat dinner) which is within the Rep, btw. It’s a great theater both because of the music, plays, etc. that they host there and to see. It’s a converted power plant turned theater, how cool is that?

And I have one more to show you, though in the story it’s a bit different than in real life. The GLBT Center show in the story is based off the MKE LGBT Community Center in Milwaukee. They don’t have things like the soup kitchen and the teen shelter, but their Project Q program finds shelter and assistance for teens in need and their staff is very dedicated to helping the LGBT community no matter if your 10 or 100! They are wonderful and so I have to include them here as well.

Character Interviews: Kit and Dale from "Seizing It" and "Too Good to be True?"

I stumbled across a couple of character interviews I wrote when I promoted Too Good to be True? last year and realized I never posted the interviews on my blog. Maybe a few of you will like to read them, so here they are:

Interview 1:

Hey everyone! My name is Chris T. Kat. I invited myself into Kit and Dale's living room and—
Kit: Hey! What about Jackson?
Chris: Oh, right. Shall we try again? I invited myself into Kit, Dale and Jackson's living room to—
Kit: Invited herself? More like barged in here without asking if we have time or are busy or anything. Really annoying.
Dale: *puts an arm around Kit's shoulder* How about you tone down the attitude a notch or two?
Kit: This is our home and I wasn't asked if I wanted to do an interview right now!
Dale: *sighs* Chris, you have to excuse Kit. He's still a bit off-kilter after his last seizure.
Chris: No problem.
Kit: No problem. Sure. *glares at Dale* Did you have to tell everyone about that?
Dale: No one cares that you're epileptic.
Kit: Right.
Chris: Um, guys, maybe you could discuss this later without an audience?
Dale: Sure.
Kit: There's nothing to discuss.
Dale: Nikita, tone it down.
Kit: *scowls but snuggles closer to Dale*
Dale: What did you want to know, Chris?
Chris: The last time we saw you two in Seizing It you had just embarked on giving a relationship a try. How has that worked out so far?
Kit and Dale: Great!
Chris: Really? No bumps in the roads?
Kit: None you need to know about.
Dale: Actually we did have some issues. We—
Kit: They do not need to know about our issues! Haven't you ever heard of a little something called privacy?
Chris: You don't need to go into detail. Of course we all value your privacy—
Kit: *sneers* Says the one who invited herself in.
Dale: *lifts Kit onto his lap and whispers something in his ear*
Kit: *blushes* I... um, I apologize for snapping at you. That was really inappropriate. Like Dale said in the beginning I'm a bit off-kilter because of a big seizure. I really hate those. I always feel so unsettled afterward.
Chris: I can imagine.
Dale: *rubs Kit's back* You're getting a better grip on the epilepsy again.
Kit: *smiles* Because you're taking good care of me.
Dale: Always, kitten.
Chris: Awww, you two are so cute together!
Kit: *groans and pushes his head under Dale's chin* This is embarrassing.
Dale: *laughs* Chris, don't make him blush. He'll be a pest for the rest of the day.
Kit: Hey, you always say I'm a good-looking pest!
Dale: That you are.
Kit: *mumbles* Love you.
Dale: Love you too, kitten.
Chris: *watches Dale and Kit kissing* Oh, all right guys. I take it this is a really inconvenient time for me to drop by. Maybe another time?
Dale: You're always welcome!
Kit: Except when—
Dale: Kit!
Kit: Yes, dear?
Dale: *gets up and flips Kit over his shoulder* I don't want to appear impolite but will you find your way out on your own? Kit and I need to do... something.
Kit: *snickers* Right. We need to do something about Dale's little problem.
Dale: Geez, you're such a brat!
Kit: You love me anyway, right?
Dale: I do.
Chris: *waves and rushes to the front door* Have fun, guys!

Interview 2:

Hey everyone! My name is Chris T. Kat. Since my first attempt at inviting myself into Kit and Dale's living room wasn't all that successful, I called ahead this time.
Dale: Hi Chris, welcome back.
Chris: Hi Dale. Where's Kit?
Dale: He's walking Jackson and should be here any minute.
Chris: I take it he's doing better? Since he's walking Jackson alone?
Dale: *sighs* Yes, he is.
Chris: You seem... doubtful.
Dale: No! Well, okay, maybe. It's the first time he's off alone and it makes me nervous not to know how he's doing. I just want to make sure he's all right.
Chris: His epilepsy must be hard on you too.
Dale: Let's not talk about his epilepsy when he's back, okay? It's a touchy subject for him and I'd rather do without a tantrum. Don't get me wrong: I get why he acts the way he does, I really do. No one wants to be defined by something out of his control.
Kit: Honey, I'm back!
Jackson bounds into the room, sniffs my hand, then goes over to Dale to receive a pat before he reclines next to the heater.
Kit: Oh, you.
Dale: Kit.
Chris: Hey, Kit, nice to meet you again.
Kit: *plops next to Dale on the sofa* Hi, Chris.
Chris: You look much better than the last time I saw you.
Dale: *cringes*
Kit: Do I?
Chris: *looks around in embarrassment* Talk about putting your foot in, huh?
Kit: *laughs* Hah! Better you than me! What would you like to know? And before you ask: Dale is off-limit.
Chris: I thought so.
Kit: Just wanted to be clear.
Dale: Kit, what's gotten into you?
Kit: Nothing.
Dale: I raise your nothing to a something. Shoot.
Kit: No.
Dale: Do you seriously want me to tickle you in front of an audience?
Kit: *blushes* Dale!
Dale: Yes?
Kit: I don't want to talk about it, okay? Forget about it?
Dale: About you having a jealousy fit? No way!
Chris: Here we go again. Do you need time to settle your argument?
Kit: Yes.
Dale: No.
Chris: *narrows eyes* Is this a ploy to get rid of me?
Dale: No!
Kit: *mumbles* Yes.
Dale: *stares at Kit in disbelief*
Kit: Don't look at me like that! Dale? Come on! Okay, okay, I'll answer all her questions! Just stop looking at me like that.
Dale: *keeps staring*
Kit: Would it help if I said I love you really loud?
Dale: *snorts* You're unbelievable!
Kit: *climbs onto Dale's lap and kisses him*
Chris: *rolls her eyes* All right, guys. I get it. Kit really doesn't do interviews. I'll rest my case.
Kit: *grins and winks*
Chris: *gets up* No, no, you two stay where you are. I know my way out.
Kit: Hey, Chris?
Chris: *turns back around* Yes?
Kit: Will Too Good to be True? be the last book about Dale and me?
Dale: *pulls Kit closer* Shh, kitten, it'll be fine.
Chris: Honestly? I'm not sure. There's still some stuff you need to work through, isn't there?
Kit: I guess.
Chris: Give me some time to mull it over, okay?
Dale: That's fine. I already got him, that's all I need.
Kit: You're making me all teary-eyed.
Dale: *kisses Kit again*
Chris: *walks to the door and furiously scribbles notes*

Julie Lynn Hayes: Love, Loss, Laughter & Lust

Please welcome back my good friend Julie Lynn Hayes. She has a short story in the anthology Love, Loss, Laughter & Lust. Make sure to check out His Prince Wore Pink Stilettos. It's one of my favorite stories from Julie. :)
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Coming of Age Stories...
Coming of age is a popular trope among writers of all genres. Perhaps because everyone goes through it at some point. (Although there are some people I wonder if they’ll ever grow up, but that’s a whole other story lol)
Coming of age evokes making that transition from childhood to young adulthood. To quote an old song from a movie titled To Sir With Love – “from crayons to perfume”. Coming of age makes us think of puberty, and our blossoming sexuality, whether straight or gay. It’s all new and exciting and awkward... and confusing as hell.
Sometimes coming of age can mean a loss of innocence, such as in Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, where two siblings, Scout and Jem, grow up over the course of one unforgettable summer, and the harsh reality of growing up in Jim Crow Mississippi. Another wonderful story about coming of age is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, by Betty Smith. The main character is a poor girl named Francie Nolan, and the book details her life in long-ago Brooklyn, and the parents who did the best they could for her and her brother.
My story, “His Prince Wore Pink Stilettos” takes place in the 1970s, and is one young man’s journey to sexual awareness. Being gay then wasn’t very easy, and Michael is clueless when it comes to boys, because he’s sure he’s the only one like him. And how can he tell the boy who’s the object of his wet dreams how he feels?
Do you have any special memories of coming of age? I’d love to hear them!
This story was originally published by Dreamspinner Press a few years ago. It has been re-edited and the title slightly changed. I’m proud to have had it accepted by Wayward Ink for their Love, Loss, Laughter & Lust anthology. As the title implies, there is something for everyone in this book.
Thanks for having me here today!
Wayward Ink is having a giveaway to celebrate the anthology’s release! Just enter your name in the rafflecopter!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Julie Lynn Hayes was reading at the age of two and writing by the age of nine and always wanted to be a writer when she grew up. Two marriages, five children, and more than forty years later, that is still her dream. She blames her younger daughters for introducing her to yaoi and the world of M/M love, a world which has captured her imagination and her heart and fueled her writing in ways she'd never dreamed of before. She especially loves stories of two men finding true love and happiness in one another's arms and is a great believer in the happily ever after. She lives in St. Louis with her daughter Sarah and two cats, loves books and movies, and hopes to be a world traveler some day. She enjoys crafts, such as crocheting and cross stitch, knitting and needlepoint and loves to cook. While working a temporary day job, she continues to write her books and stories and reviews, which she posts in various places on the internet. Her family thinks she is a bit off, but she doesn't mind. Marching to the beat of one's own drummer is a good thing, after all. Her published works can be found at Dreamspinner Press, Amber Quill Press, MuseitUp Publishing, Torquere Press, and eXtasy Books, and coming soon to Wayward Ink Publishing and Prizm Publishing. She has also begun to self-publish and is an editor at MuseitUp.

Excerpt:

Rumor said that shinobi carried out their work in the dead of night, wearing black to disappear in the shadows, entering castles unseen and committing murder unheard.

Rumor, Sanae found out, was wrong.

When she noticed the intruder, it was merely late evening and the colors of sunset hadn’t yet drained from the sky. A gentle wind was tugging strands of hair out of the red ribbon at the nape of her neck, and the air was thick with the scent of spring and renewed life. It was a sudden noise, a thud that did not belong, that first alerted her.

She knelt outside the clan head’s suite on the porch that opened on the gardens. She wasn’t wearing practical clothing like a real guard, but rather a bright-blue furisode with ample sleeves and a beautiful flower pattern. She wore no sword, but a knife was camouflaged in the colorful sash about her waist. Her function was to raise the alarm in case of danger. Fighting was for the adults, those who had undergone the coming-of-age ceremony and thus earned the right to bear a sword. She would soon be one of them, but not yet.

Sanae watched from the corner of her eyes as the intruder became visible among the flowering plum trees. The sound that had alerted her must have been his landing after he’d jumped the wall, an impressive feat indeed. Twice as impressive considering this wall was the second of the clan house, created specifically to protect the clan head and his entourage. The first wall was taller and better guarded. How had this intruder gained access?

Attacks on the Fox clan were so rare that it was considered an honor to witness one. For one to happen while she was standing guard for the first time was amazing luck, and her excitement was far stronger than her fear.

The intruder was dressed in a plain manner that would not attract attention in the clan house, but he could not disguise that which betrayed him: his human aura. The only humans who lived in the clan house were women who did not bear swords. None but a shinobi, an assassin, would be so bold as to try this.

Under normal circumstances, Sanae’s duty would have been to raise the alarm and watch as the intruder fled, discovered too soon to act. But there was no need to let the shinobi know he had been discovered; there was a fox in the garden.

Sanae stared at the fox until she had its attention, then deliberately flicked her gaze toward the intruder. The fox slunk away to enter through a door out of the shinobi’s sight. She forced herself to remain calm, to pretend she hadn’t noticed a thing. After all, she was but a young girl watching the flowers in bloom.

Her heartbeat quickened as the intruder approached, discreetly sizing her up. Would he attack, or would he seek another entrance to the rooms she guarded? There was no doubt he was after the clan head: assassins always were.

Wednesday Briefs: Hope 35

Welcome to Wednesday Briefs, where authors post free fiction of 1000 words or less each week. I used the following prompt: “That’s the most terrible smell ever.”

Hope #35

Shane didn't answer. He clamped a hand around my biceps and ran toward the remains of a wall, yanking me with him. I skidded on the scales-littered ground, cringing at the sound of splintering under my feet.
Shane slid around the corner of the desolate wall, darted his gaze around in what at one point surely had been a room, and pushed me ahead. I stumbled and protested, “Shane, I—”
There was a sharp sting on my rear end and Shane hollered, “Move!”
I fled, ignoring the way my heart thumped. Did he just smack me? What good would it do for us to cower in the farthest corner? The dragon could sit it out or drag us out from our hiding place.
Only when we reached the end, did I see what Shane must've seen right away. There was an old wooden door with heavy metal fittings lowered at an awkward angle into the ground. Gusts of hot wind followed us, whirling up scales and debris which whipped my face. I lifted my arm to shield my eyes.
Open the door!” Shane yelled as he pushed me under a small overhang. At the same time, he ripped the large knife from where I'd stowed it and whirled around, facing the dragon.
I cast a glance over my shoulder and whimpered. From my point I only saw large, black claws as they landed on the ground, right in front of Shane. The dragon's roar shook the earth and forced me to clap my hands around my ears.
When I withdrew my hands, Shane stood there, his arms fanned out as if he hoped to protect me with this gesture. The dragon only needed to lower his head or reach out with his claw and Shane would be gone. With a gasp, I hurled myself onto the door and pulled with all my might.
The door creaked and the dragon rumbled. One claw tapped on the ground as it folded up its wings. After two more tries, the door opened, bringing with it a stench that caused my eyes to water.
Oh, my God! That’s the most terrible smell ever,” I said.
Better than acting as a meal for a dragon,” Shane ground out. “Get in there.”
I swallowed. The daylight illuminated a flight of stairs winding deep into the earth. I walked on the first stone step, slapping a hand over my nose and mouth to prevent myself from vomiting.
Faster, Gil!”
I steadied myself with one hand on the wall as I hurried down the steps. Where did the damn stench come from? At least the stairs weren't slippery, and the wall felt cool but dry to the touch. A bang resounded, and I squeaked when sudden darkness enveloped me.
Behind me, Shane said, “It's all right, Gil. It's just me. The dragon can't get to us.”
Great,” I replied. “Walking in an underground structure that might collapse any second feels so much safer than facing a dragon.”
Shane laughed as he reached me. He laid a hand on my shoulder, then slid his arm around my torso and sought out my mouth. I opened to his questing tongue, moaning when his tongue slipped in. When we came up for air, I said, “I don't like it here.”
I don't either. But if I recall correctly, this has been one of the smaller towers, and they all led to various passages. Maybe we're lucky and this one leads to the forest,” Shane said.
And if it doesn't?”
We'll find a way out of here, Gil. I promise, I'll get you to safety.”
I believed him.
