Buy links:
When wolf shifter Robin agreed to cover for his older brother Tim and Tim’s lover Jay, he never imagined feeling so stifled. Tim's overprotective attitude suffocates him. Pressure from within—the urge to find his own mate—mounts daily. With a little help from Jay, Robin finally convinces Tim to let him go for a run alone, but he has no inkling that his life will change forever as a result.
Unexpectedly, he finds his mate Peter Brannigan, an old and special soul, and the one shifter who can bring balance to Robin’s life. The new couple spend days together, developing their bond as mates. Yet even as they explore and cement their relationship, crisis looms just ahead when an old enemy of the pack shows up and kills someone Robin loves.

Excerpt:
The scent called to Robin, setting something free within him—something unfamiliar and primal in nature. Robin’s mood alternated between exhilarated and scared, the combination and sheer intensity of both feelings troubling him.
Robin stopped near a small creek and carefully stepped inside the stream, the cool water soothing his paws and ankles. He took a few swallows of the clear water while his heartbeat slowed down.
The scent was strong around the creek, but Robin was unable to pinpoint it. After raising his snout high in the air, he inhaled the smell deeply, hoping it would infuse his lungs and from there spread to every part of his body, because whatever it was, it had a highly arousing but also calming effect on him. A long, high-pitched yowl broke free from his throat, announcing his longing.
Robin waited before he swept his gaze around. High pines surrounded the small creek, casting shadows on the water’s surface. The creek flowed slowly and smoothly, only occasionally hindered by rocks strewn in its bed. The water swirled around them, creating small vortices that gurgled.
Would anyone answer his plea? What would he do if someone did? Why was he even expecting someone to answer? It couldn’t be his mate—it just couldn’t—although everything would make sense, then.
No one answered Robin. In fact, he couldn’t even hear the usual cacophony of animal noises, just the water lapping at his feet. Robin pricked his ears, concentrating hard on what he could hear—the purling of the creek, the wind whipping through the treetops, and sometimes branches creaking. His breathing sounded harsh, closer to panting. Something wasn’t right, not at all.
Robin walked over to the other side of the stream, the earlier exhilaration dwindling. He shifted from foot to foot, darting his gaze around. An uncomfortable sense of isolation nestled into his insides. Maybe he should have listened to Tim after all?
Shivering, he stood there, not sure whether he wanted to go on with his search or go back to Tim, Jay, and Walter. Going back meant safety, whereas going after his potential mate—or whatever it was he was following—could mean anything.
Robin tucked his tail between his hind legs. He had never heard of a wolf being afraid of his mate. Wouldn’t that mean the scent didn’t belong to his mate? Or maybe his mate was nuts and he somehow recognized it? Whatever the scent was—or to whomever it belonged—it didn’t smell like a wolf.
What if his mate was female? How would that work? He had never been into girls. He liked them as friends, but any kind of advances had him running for the hills. Robin was gay, period. No, the scent had to belong to a male wolf.
No, wait. He’d already ruled out another wolf.
The darkness settling around him didn’t help the queasy feeling in his stomach. Whichever direction he turned his head, something moved in the shadows, leaving him vulnerable and scared. The moon remained partially hidden behind the clouds, but even if the sky had been clear, the moonlight wouldn’t have been able to illuminate the forest ground properly. Or at least not in a way Robin wanted.
Suddenly he started. The moon? Oh hell! Shouldn’t he have been back hours ago? Surely Tim was already looking for him. Why hadn’t he realized hours had passed? Had his wolf taken over without him noticing? His father obviously had a point with not wanting Robin to go anywhere alone in his wolf form.
Robin threw his head back and closed his eyes before he howled at the moon, the sound of his voice echoing through the forest, silencing every other animal in his vicinity. This time someone answered him. Robin jumped at the sound of a roar at the other side of the creek.
The roar didn’t sound like a wolf; it was too guttural for that. After his initial jump, Robin stood frozen, shock waves rolling through his entire body.

Wednesday Briefs: Hope #42

Welcome to Wednesday Briefs, where authors post free fiction of 1000 words or less each week. I used: fairy dust in some way

Hope #42

Shane's body went taut. I nudged my elbow into his abdomen and he stepped away, grimacing.
“Weren't you?” I asked him, shoving Silvion's arms away.
Shane's shoulders slumped in defeat and I caught him exchange a look with Silvion before he answered, “Yes.”
Great, did you ever consider telling me?” I asked, hurt and betrayal sending sharp stabs of pain into my gut. I was acting like a jealous, irrational lover. So what? They’d been lovers. It wasn't as if I'd been a virgin when I met Shane.
It was a long time ago. Shane stayed in your reality most of the time, and neither of us took well to being separated for months on end,” Silvion chimed in.
Do you still love each other?” I blurted. My hands shook, and I pushed them in my pockets. They didn't need to know how much their answer would affect me. Why was it that important anyway? Shane was my boyfriend, not Silvion's, even though I hadn’t shown him t I loved him since he'd changed back from puppy to human. Pressing the heels of my hands into my closed eyes, I added, “Forget it. I don't want to hear it.”
“Gil,” Shane whispered. He tugged me against his lean body, cupping the back of my head with one hand, the way he'd always done whenever I was upset. “We should get some sleep.”
I nodded, suddenly too tired to ponder all I'd learned in the last two days. It felt as if an eternity had passed and my life had been turned upside down. One of Silvion's large paws settled on my shoulder, then slid lower to the small of my back. I shivered, which elicited a chuckle from Shane.
“I've always had a fondness for Silvion's hands too. They're quite big and capable,” Shane said.
When I looked at him, he grinned at Silvion, a teasing glint in his eyes. I said, “I should be mad at you but... I think I agree with your statement.”
Silvion's hand glided even lower and I sucked in a breath as he gave my butt a firm pat. “You really need some sleep,” he growled. “As light as you are, I don't want to carry you all the way to my home.”
“I can walk, you know.”
Shane snorted and not even a death-glare changed the way he smiled at me—fondly, but exasperated at the same time. “Gil, you're ready to keel over any second.”
“Well, I don't see any kind of transportation other than our feet, so why are we discussing this at all?” I asked.
Silvion unfastened a pouch clasped to his belt. It held a glittering, light blue... substance. Shane's smile broadened as he nudged me closer to Silvion. Like before, we pressed together with me in the middle. I nestled up to Silvion, and Shane wrapped his arms around me and as much of Silvion as he could.
“This is fairy dust,” Silvion said.
“Fairy dust,” I echoed. “Sure. Why not. I've seen a real dragon, so why not fairy dust too?”
“He really needs to sleep,” Silvion told Shane, who I felt nodding against my back.
I'm still here, you can talk to me instead of talking about me,” I muttered.
Shane dropped a light kiss on my exposed neck, causing me to whimper. He said, “Close your eyes and hold on tight, okay?”
I clutched Silvion's robe in my hands and breathed in deeply. Silvion trickled fairy dust on my head, murmured words I couldn't understand, and a moment later the air around us whirled, ripped at my clothes, and I lost all sense of direction. Panic engulfed me when breathing became an issue, but Shane gave my hair a light tug, bending my head back so I reflexively gulped for air.
Shhh, it's okay, we're in Silvion's home. We're safe.”

Excerpt

Still flustered and confused, with no time to contemplate what had just come over him, Corentin tossed out his hand and gestured to the open road. “Do you see signs for I-85 North anywhere, genius?”
Man, you’re really bitchy,” Ringo said, crossing his arms. “Have enough water today? Hydration is important.”
Why should I trust you anyway? You could be getting us lost on purpose,” Taylor said. There was a sneer in his tone, and he glared in the rearview. “I’m not counting out we nearly died three seconds ago.”
I was avoiding a tire in the road,” Corentin lied. “And I am not getting us lost.” His irritation grew as he tried to puzzle through everything that had just transpired. “I’m keeping my promise. You’re useless to me, so we’re going to go save your brother and kill Idi instead.”
Woooooah,” Ringo said, holding up his hands in surrender. “You didn’t tell me this was Idi we were up against.”
Someone fill me in,” Taylor said in a demanding tone.
Corentin gritted his teeth. Just like all princesses, Taylor was a pretty spoiled brat. “Idi is the Witchking,” Corentin said simply. He braced himself for the oncoming flurry of questions. Which he wouldn’t know how to answer in the simplest of terms.
Idi’s bad juju,” Ringo said. “The worst of all witches.”
And we’re going to kill him?” Taylor asked.
Corentin caught him arching a brow and making a doubtful expression in the rearview. “That’s the plan.”
And save Atticus,” Taylor said.
That’s the plan,” Corentin repeated tersely.
What’s in it for you?” Taylor asked. Something in his tone suggested his mistrust had hit its limit.
Before Corentin could come up with an expert lie, he was unfortunately saved by the GPS popping with sizzles and showering sparks over the cabin of the truck. Ringo zipped behind the passenger seat, and Taylor yelped in a half squeal. The truck fishtailed over two lanes and came dangerously close to clipping a car. Corentin acted fast, ripping the melting device from its dash mount and chucking it out the window. Taylor turned to look out the back window, and Corentin caught the bright orange flame as the thing exploded like a grenade.
When the spots cleared from Corentin’s eyes, he muttered a curse under his breath as the truck passed from a clear division of daylight into the dead of night. He clicked the headlights on and waited for his eyes to adjust.
What the hell is going on?” Taylor asked, leaning up to the back window.
Idi’s fucking with us,” Corentin said. “It seems like he’s trying to delay us as much as possible.”
He knows we’re onto him,” Taylor said. “Way to go for discussing the super-secret squirrel plan out loud.”
You know…,” Corentin said, glaring in the rearview. “You are a lot more pleasant when you’re passed out, snoring.”
Taylor huffed. “I don’t snore.”
You bleat like a dying hyena,” Ringo said, then spit a giggle.
Taylor’s attention snapped to the pixie. “What is this? Asshole day?”
Corentin caught his eerie pink glare in the rearview.
Dude, just get off at the nearest exit. We should be near Birmingham by now.”
All right, all right,” Corentin said, and it was a pleasant reprieve that Taylor kept his mouth shut for more than five minutes. It didn’t last.
Hey, hey!” Taylor said and pointed at a green-and-white interstate exit sign in the distance. “Talladega! Turn here. I can get us to Atlanta from here. We’re not that far off.”
Corentin guided the truck up the exit ramp and frowned. Something was wrong—flat-topped mesas came into view.
What the…?” Taylor whispered and watched the rolling dunes of the Painted Desert.
Uuuh…,” Ringo added and pressed himself to the windshield. The occasional cactus whisked by. “Wow, Talladega’s having a hard time with the drought this season,” Ringo said through their awestruck silence.
That’s not a drought,” Corentin said softly.
Taylor squinted into the distance. “Does ‘Welcome to Arizona, the Grand Canyon State’ answer your question?”
Ringo pasted his face to the windshield. “How do you even see—” Ringo squeaked when the state sign of Arizona blurred by. “Oh my Storyteller!”
Corentin remained tense, trying to get his thoughts together.
Taylor, however, seemed to not be able to resist blurting out his opinion. “It seems this Eddie guy is doing more than just fucking with us.”
Idi,” Corentin said and realized how terse he sounded. “I think he wants to do more than just delay us.”
Ringo peeled himself from the windshield. He slapped his hands to his cheeks in horror. “He wants us to die out here?” he croaked.
Panicking is not going to help,” Corentin said firmly.
Easy for you to say,” Taylor snapped. “We just need to stop somewhere and ask for directions. We’ll get back on the right road in no time.”
Corentin sighed. Taylor’s hope was admirable, but Ringo was only half right. They would die out here, but only one of them. This was Corentin’s first trial. Now he was here, in the middle of nowhere, with Taylor to do with what he will. As soon as that was over, Idi would release him and he’d be on his way, but only until the next time Idi summoned him to do his bidding.
They drove on, again in a long-hanging silence. The interstate lay barren, not a single car or scrap of civilization to be seen. The pavement bore veins of black tar from years of shoddy repair. Corentin caught Taylor’s pink gaze in the rearview, and his feral eyes seemed to gleam in the dark.
The princess shifted from one side of the backseat to the other. He seemed to look for anything that would help. He cupped his hands around the glass and peeked out into the night. “I can’t see anything out there. It’s just desert,” Taylor muttered.
Ringo turned to Corentin, “How are we on ga—”
Don’t say it!” Corentin and Taylor shouted in unison.
Ringo held up his hands and pursed his lips. “Got it…. Uh… why?”
I assume Eddie is listening in to everything,” Taylor said.
Idi,” Corentin corrected Taylor again. “I think sir princess is right. It seems the second we’ve said anything, something’s gone wrong.”
Ringo fluttered over to the dash and rested his chin in his palm. “You know… it could be all a coincidence….”
Corentin and Taylor glared angrily at Ringo in silence while the hum of the pavement whooshed as Corentin drove.
Ringo waved his hands. “By Titania’s tatas, guys, I was just kidding!”

BLURB:
One bad boy mechanic, one sexy romance writer, and an impossible situation. Hell on wheels? More like hell in high heels.

Bad boy mechanic Josh Stone likes to get his hands dirty any way he can—the filthier, the better. Ever since his wife walked out on him and their young son, he’s only had room in his heart for two loves: the kid and cars.

Roped into playing his best buddy’s gay boyfriend during a romance writers convention, the player meets the girl who’s gonna rock his world. Leelee Songchild. Shy, bashful, beautiful Leelee who blushes at the drop of a hat yet writes hardcore smut to rival Josh’s backlist of Penthouse Forum.

The only problem is his hands are tied. Josh can’t stab his old friend/fake lover in the back even though all he wants to do is take luscious Leelee to bed, and maybe, love her. When the truth comes out, all hell breaks loose. Too bad romance is just for books.

WARNING: Uncompromisingly hot sex, hilarious hijinks, and heartfelt romance—STONE is a triple threat.

Excerpt:

As soon as the venue grew crowded and the noise became a deafening roar, the already dim lights lowered even more and three spots hit center stage. Strutting from the darkness beyond, a man with slicked back black hair and painted on leathers—I dare-fuckin’-say they were tighter than the pair I’d trashed last night—threw his arms wide.

Women erupted from their seats, leaped onto tables, started throwing panties, money, wads of paper with phone numbers. Janice pounded the table, a small smile flirted on Leelee’s lips, and Jacqueline blew a man-hungry whistle through her teeth.

Nicky smirked at me.

Welcome to ’Lanta, y’all! When we heard there was a group of beautiful,” he thrust his hips once, “talented,” twice, “freaky group of sexy romance writers in town?” The MC gave Jules Gem a run for her money, rolling his pelvis obscenely while he licked his lips and the ladies threatened to stampede the stage. His voice dropped, “Well, we just had to put on a special show for y’all!” Stepping back, he raised his arms again, shouting, “Welcome to the all-male revue, Magic Mike Night . . . erm . . . make that Noon!”

From every corner of the room, men appeared. Lots of men. Almost naked men. No worse than what I’d gotten up to last night, but then Leelee had been focused solely on me. Now she wasn’t. Her mouth dropped open, her cheeks flushed in that pretty shade of pink the way it did when she was on the brink of orgasm. Threading through the audience of bloodthirsty demons, aka dick lovin’ babes, the strippers eventually made it onstage in one piece, without their negligible outfits being torn off their bodies.

A few kisses were probably stolen and asses squeezed, I knew, because I’d been on the receiving end of that before.

I sat, glowering.

Wednesday Briefs: Hope #41

I'm back with another chapter of Hope! :)

Welcome to Wednesday Briefs, where authors post free fiction of 1000 words or less each week. I used: “bubble bath”

Hope #41

We made it to the portal without any kind of interference. No matter how often I glanced back over my shoulder, nearly tripping over my own feet because Silvion walked on, no one followed us.
By the time we stood in front of the still portal, Shane was sweating and I was shivering. Silvion let go of Shane's hand, then rested both of his paws on my shoulder to turn me around. I received a scowl—I didn't know why—and he growled, “If you hadn't looked over your shoulder every twenty seconds, you wouldn't look as if someone used you to wipe up dirt.”
Startled, I laughed. An inspection of my clothes confirmed my suspicion. I had some small tears, the knees of my jeans were dark-brown and stiff from whatever I'd fallen into, and I suspected the rest of me didn't look much more respectable. “We were almost roasted by a dragon, my boyfriend ate two of said dragon's scales and changed from a puppy to a man, and you're ripping me a new one for looking a bit worse for wear? Seriously?”
Take a bath when you get back,” Silvion replied in a gruff voice. “You're probably one of those that like bubble baths.”
Snorting, I replied, “Only if there's someone to help me wash my hair.”
Silvion's Adam's apple bobbed up and down, and there was a faint flush covering his cheeks. “I'll open the portal.”
“What? Am I not pretty enough to tempt you?” I asked, spreading my arms in invitation. What the hell was I doing? I had no idea.
Gil, stop that,” Shane said softly. He kept asmall distance between us, looking distraught and surprisingly fragile.
“Name one reason why I should,” I challenged him.
“Because despite everything that's happened you still love me? Because the Gil I know would never set out to hurt someone.”
The portal whooshed into life, the twirling surface distracting me for a moment. I shoved my hands into my pockets, so no one would see how much they shook. I didn't want to go through that portal again, didn't want to deal with my life there. I patted my chest and said, “I'm not sure the Gil you knew is still in here.”
“Nonsense,” Silvion chimed in. “You're shaken up, which is understandable, but you're still the same.”
You don't know me at all, so don't make assumptions just because you want to get rid of me,” I replied, tears stinging my eyes. I was so confused. I didn't like to feel like a fish out of water, absolutely not.
Silvion stepped toward me. A moment later, he folded his big, broad-muscled arms around me. “I don't want to get rid of you.”
A shiver ran through me when Shane pressed up against my back, his crotch at level with my ass. He slid his arms around my waist and between Silvion and me. For some time we just stood there, me sandwiched between them, and for the first time I felt remotely better.
Shane sighed, a gust of breath tickling my ear. “We could stay here for a while, with Silvion.”
My heart thumped harshly at that prospect. I craned my head backward to get a glimpse at Shane, then looked up at Silvion. He tried to school his face into impassiveness but it wasn't working. Swallowing, I asked, “But I thought you'd be in danger if you stay here?”
Shane shrugged and shifted from foot to foot, his crotch rubbing along my ass. “I'm in danger here or there, it doesn't really matter anymore. You want to stay with him, right?”
I closed my eyes and leaned further into Silvion's body. “I do, but... but you're right too. I do love you. It's just... I'm not sure. I'm seriously confused at the moment.”
Shane's laughter surprised me. “Yeah, he has that effect on people.”
“I have no such effect,” Silvion rumbled.
“Yes, you do,” Shane replied.
Realization hit me full-throttle. “Oh, my God! You two have been lovers!”

Release Day: Unicorn Rescue (plus giveaway)

Finally, it's release day! ^_^ That's always an exciting day.
Blurb:
A search for missing unicorns reveals a Fate that Samuel has only dreamed of before.
When they first meet, Jordan takes Samuel’s breath away—but not in a good way. Jordan knocks Samuel, a gatekeeper from a world called Eden, flat on his ass. In Jordan’s defense, Samuel did freak him out, appearing out of thin air the way he did. Luckily, the appearance of the unicorns preempts a possible fight.
Relieved to have found Eden’s unicorns, Samuel is astonished that Jordan knows about them, despite the fact that their horns have been concealed by magic. Attempting to remove the halters that bind them, Samuel is rendered unconscious.
The question now is how to get the unicorns back to Eden, as well as solve the mystery of who has stolen them to begin with. But just maybe Samuel and Jordan need to deal with this attraction between them that seems to be growing by leaps and bounds. Are their feelings tied in with the mystery of the unicorns?

Excerpt:
What the fuck?” Samuel groaned. After locating the unicorns on Earth, he’d opened a gate at night and stepped through it, not expecting any trouble while retrieving the unicorns.
But something had gone wrong because he found himself sprawled on the soft grass, rubbing his aching jaw. The darkness around him wasn’t absolute—a sparse scattering of stars in the sky illuminated his surroundings. As he searched for his gate, he came up empty. There had been no time to stabilize it and, annoyed, he conceded that it probably had collapsed.
Who are you? Or should I ask what are you?”
Samuel opened and closed his mouth several times, wondering whether he needed a healer or if an ice-pack would be sufficient. He sat up and observed the man who’d knocked him to the ground. The same man he’d seen in Selina’s crystal ball.
I asked you a question!”
Well, it would’ve been easier to ask your question first instead of knocking me out. Just a well-meant piece of advice for next time.” Samuel hauled himself to his feet and shook his head to clear it. His jaw would sport a wonderful bruise tomorrow if he didn’t do something about it. This guy sure had a powerful fist.
I didn’t allow you to get up!”
Samuel fixed his gaze on the man, taking stock of him. He’d seemed small in the crystal ball but that didn’t have to mean anything. Still, even in real life he came across as small but lean, with bright blue eyes that looked rather huge in his finely chiseled face. Pretty. Really pretty.
I’m talking to you!”
You’re not talking, you’re screaming,” Samuel said. “Scared?”
Why would I be scared of someone who stepped out of nothingness? Although it looked like some kind of opening, which is all kinds of weird and… and… who are you?”
I’m Samuel, nice to meet you…?” Samuel smiled and extended his hand, knowing he’d surprised the other man with his casual manner.
Jordan.”
Hello, Jordan. Now, how about we start again? I think we got off on the wrong foot.” Samuel clasped Jordan’s trembling hand in his. “Don’t be afraid.”
Afraid? No, no, I’m not. I mean, why would I be? It’s an everyday thing that people show up out of thin air. Haha! See? I’m not afraid.”
Ah, yes, I noticed how not afraid you are.”

A Bite in Time
by Viki Lyn & Vina Grey

BLURB:

A dangerous secret, a vampire, plus one sexy cop is a recipe for trouble.

JOHN REEDER has accepted his love for VINCENT KAMATEROS, but he doesn’t know his lover is a vampire. When aderanged vampire targets Vincent, John has to deal with uncovered secrets that blow his life apart.

Will Vincent reveal his true nature to protect the cop who has come to mean more than his own life? In doing so, he might ruin his only chance for a ‘happy ever after’ with John.

Excerpt:

Euro for your thoughts?” Vincent teased as he kissed John’s neck.

Maybe a dollar. At least I can spend it at home.” John touched Vincent’s face. “I wish we had another day, that’s all.”

Vincent kissed him and John’s cock nudged forward.

John pulled away. “We better get going. Shower first.”

Good idea.” Vincent charming smile hinted of mischief.

Warmth spread across John’s chest. Shit. He was officially a sap reacting so easily to Vincent’s charm.

Biting his lip, he stood and pressed one hand on Vincent’s shoulder, stopping him from rising. “Alone.” How to explain the need to build back his defenses, so once they returned to Arizona, his relationship with Vincent existed, once again, in the privacy of their homes.

We’re leaving in an hour,” John added, putting an end to fooling around.

Vincent leaned back on his elbows, his legs stretched out giving John an eye full of what he’d miss showering alone. John ran his hand across his scalp, ogling but not caring.

More reason for me to shower with you,” Vincent said. “Once we’re home, you’ll stuff me back into the closet.”

The hairs on John’s nape stood as a flint of anger lit in him. Vincent read his thoughts and it was goddamn irritating. Then his shoulders slumped. Jesus. A big, bad cop scared of coming out. It had been a few months since he committed to making their relationship work. He was beginning to trust Vincent completely, and planned to make headway, but damn if he hated Vincent baiting him about coming out.

Didn’t Vincent get it? He didn’t like being pushed against the wall. And yet he had made a promise he would make the attempt. That he wouldn’t let his attitude come in the way of a relationship. To be fair, Vincent held back his impatience, most of the time.

This has been great,” John waved his hand to take in the room. “But it’s a far cry from Arizona. Julie knows, and I’m going to tell Free, but I’m not ready to tell my peers or my parents.”

No matter how much he craved for an open relationship, once back in Arizona, he’d be Detective John Reeder, straight son of Irish Catholic parents. Sure he’d made slight progress, telling his sister he was gay. But from asimple thing like telling his sister who’d already guessed to coming out to his parents was a long fucking way. Yet, guilt overwhelmed John every time he pulled back from Vincent’s touch in public, the hurt in his lover’s eyes eating at him.

Vincent slipped on his robe, his good-natured teasing vanished. “John, when will you face who you are? A gay man with a boyfriend who loves you. I refuse to be treated as a shameful secret.”

Love? Did he say love? Oh fuck.
