Living in Montana and working the ranch is all Aaron wants to do for the rest of his life. Diagnosed as allergic to the sun thirteen years previous, every day is a struggle to get out of bed. Having to wear long-sleeved shirts, gloves, and even material to cover his face from the effects of the sun, just makes it all worse. Now, in his thirty-second year, he is sure this will be his last summer. While he hates it, he knows he needs to come to terms with the truth and put things in order for his younger cousins. Before he does so, he heads out for one night of pleasure before facing what’s coming.

Jaret loves excitement and new adventures. For over five hundred years, he has sought them out. In Montana on a whim, he comes across someone he doesn’t expect, someone who makes him feel things he does not understand and does not want to give up. In no time at all, he feels like he cannot live without Aaron. The only problem is Aaron doesn’t know who he is, what he is, nor that he isn’t going to die. Not on Jaret’s watch. With a plan to help the other man discover who he is in place, he only has one thing to worry about: whether an ancient enemy will come and destroy everything he now holds dear.

Pages or Words:

Gay Fiction, M/M Romance, Paranormal, Western/Cowboy

“You’re not going to die, Aaron.”
“You don’t know that. This sickness, ailment, curse…whatever the fuck it is. It’s gettin’ worse. And it’s changin’. Morphin’ into somethin’ scary. My nightmares lately have been horrible.”
“What kind of nightmares?” Of course, Jaret knew. They were the same kind all of them had during the change. Fire and ice as the body went through horrendous chills and soaring high fevers. They would only stop once the change was complete. For after that, there was no real sleep anymore.
“Bein’ caught on high mountains, pelted with snow. Of the forests here bright with orange fire. Of you—” His voice broke. “Callin’ out my name only I’m no longer here to respond.”
“Babe,” Jaret said in a soft voice, not understanding why but knowing he was closer to this drakyl than he had ever been to anyone. “We’re going to get you cured. Then you can come out with me at night. We’ll keep the place predator free while your cousins slave in the sun. How does that sound?”
A sad attempt at a laugh left the other man’s throat. “Promise me you won’t leave until I’m gone?”
Fury swept along Jaret’s veins. Anger at the sun, the fact the man next to him was terrified, and at Davis for not explaining to the poor man earlier what he was.  But mostly, he was furious at himself for not telling Aaron the truth. Leaning in, he placed his nose against Aaron’s. “I promise you,” he said in a deep growl, “that you are not going to die, Aaron Drakyl. I won’t let it happen.”

1-Welcome Thianna! Please tell us a bit about yourself and your release.
I’m Thianna Durston, lifelong writer, Lay’s stacks eater, and collector of pyramids. I really do love Barbeque flavored Lay’s stacks, but this interview is about my book Discovery, not my passion for processed chips.

Discovery is the first in the Drakyl Ranch series. Take a group of cowboys who think they’re just human and have them find out that vampyr truly exist and that they’re becoming something similar, add in a romance between the eldest of the cowboy cousins and an ancient drakyl, add an attack by real vampyr and you’ve got the gist of the story. I loved these characters, even the evil ones. There’s something uniquely fun to write from the point of view from a character that doesn’t care what anyone else thinks about it and is set on destruction.

But even better was writing all the different personalities in this story. Each of the cousins is so different and as each one stars in one of the Drakyl Ranch books, it was fun to get to know each and every one.

2-How long have you been writing?
Since the day I learned the alphabet. No kidding. I actually still have the first story I remember writing. It was about a Martian who came to earth.

3-What compelled you to write this particular story?
I saw a story prompt of a cowboy vampire picture. At first, I burst out laughing as I thought – cowboy vampire? Are they kidding me? And then the plot bunny hit and would not give up. I wrote the first draft of the story in just a few days. And the synopses of the other five books in the three days that followed.

4-What gave you the courage to submit your story to a publisher?
I originally did submit this story and the synopses of the following books to a publisher and was offered a contract, but after serious consideration, I elected to self-publish Drakyl Ranch. I do, however have upcoming series through Dreamspinner Press which I am very excited about.

5-When creating your characters, do you have models in mind or are they totally fictional?
Mine are completely fictional. I’ve had people ask me what actors look like my characters and my mind goes blank because I just never think in that context. It would be hard to write any of my characters true to who they are if I’m basing them off someone.

6-Why did you start writing m/m? Is there something special that draws you to this genre?
I started writing M/M by accident. I was writing a piece of fanfiction and kept thinking “who is this guy going to end up with” because I had offed his wife from the original book. And suddenly, a few chapters in, I knew exactly who belonged with him. I had never read any M/M lit up until that point, but since I have read and written quite a bit. I love two strong men coming together, some who have to beat the odds, some who struggle with who they are in one way or another, and some who just want to find love.

7-What are you reading right now? Do you have a favorite author or genre?
Honestly? I’m reading about ten books, but I do tend to read a couple authors’ words consistently. Jordan L. Hawk and Heidi Cullinan are pretty automatic buys for me when they have a book coming out. I’m also a huge fan of the Falls Chance Ranch series by Rolf and Ranger.
(Chris: I recently discovered Jordan L. Hawk's books too and devoured them. I'm also a huge fan of anything Rolf and Ranger write! <3 )

8-What are you working on now?
I have several things I’m working on. Besides the last few books of Drakyl Ranch, I’m also working on a couple books for a series I have coming out through Dreamspinner in Nov/Dec called The Men of Falcon Pointe. The series is contemporary romance with a dash of May/December and a touch of domestic discipline. The first two books are complete and contracted and I’m working on the next two now.

I’m also working on several standalone books as well. All-in-all, I have 16 novels and 1 novella slated to be written within the next year. 1 is almost complete. Yay!

9-When you're not writing, how do you like to spend your time?
Reading. LOL No, really. I don’t like television and haven’t owned one in years and I’m not much of a movie buff anymore. So either reading or spending time with close friends. If I had the money, I’d be traveling 24/7.

10-What are your writing goals for 2015?
I have 11 novels to finish by the end of the year. Along with writing, I’ve also got several books coming out. A Good Family Man just came out August 6th. Discovery will be out September 1st. Delivered to Love, a book I co-wrote with Jamie Ray, will be out in October. 959 Brenton Street, the 1st book in the Men of Falcon Pointe series, will be out in November or December, and there will be a short holiday story coming out in December.

So it’s going to be a real busy, and yet fun, second half of 2015.

11-Do you have personal goals for 2015?
I do, but they are personal. They probably wouldn’t make much sense to someone else anyway :) So let’s leave it with a resounding yes.

About the author:
Thianna loves to write strong stories with even stronger heroes. While all of her books have an erotic overtone, it is the story that is the most important to her. “The story should be able to stand on its own. The erotic elements are an add-on.”
She enjoys writing about couples with kink, paranormal couples, and straight out strangeness. But more on that later… You can find her at
She also writes m/f under the name Thianna D.

  1. Thanks so much for hosting a spot on the Discovery tour, Chris :)

Also, Awesome to have found another Jordan L. Hawk fan - have you listened to her books in audio? They are fantastic. The narrator who does W&G, I hear his voice whenever I re-read it. And the man who narrates SPECTR is amazing. He does such an amazing job with Grey's voice :)

And I agree with R&R - I found their original website once that had all their previous stuff written. I now have a few of their older things I want them to finish, but not before Boston Harbour and Paget Creek are done *wink*

    1. You're very welcome, Thianna!

No, I haven't listened to Jordan L. Hawk's books on audio yet but I've heard good things about them. Maybe I'll give them a try.

I'd absolutely love it if Rolf and Ranger would write another Nick and Damien story--I loved this couple and their stories are my total comfort reads. I haven't had time to start on Boston Harbour yet and I think it's only posted on the lifeboat, right? I always forget to go there...

    2. I've got Nick & Damien 'saved' in my links but I haven't had the chance to read them yet. Yeah. Boston Harbour is linked from the lifeboat. Also, they just recently uploaded a story in 3 parts ONLY to the lifeboat called Madison's Hall. It's about Dale's birthday.
